I have even had Indians ask me where I find these pens. In reality, Indians do not
use fountain pens as much as they once did and those who do tend to go for the fancier
import models. So, it can be hard to find the pens you will see for sale on this
web site. So far I have had no luck in trying to contact distributors or even the
companies who make them. The only way I am able to find my stock is by visiting
local stationary shops all over the country and specifically asking for what I am
looking for. Honestly, I sometimes have to coax the pens out of them because the
shop keepers would prefer to sell me a more expensive Parker or Chinese made pen.
Part of the fun of all this is the hunt. Where are the pens and how can I find
them. Fortunately my business affairs take me to a few different cities so as I
go I will continue to look for new gems.
My whole life I have had terrible handwriting. I didn’t care much until I moved to India for business. Indians tend to have very good handwriting, and they are were not afraid to call me out for my chicken scratch. So, after a few years of enduring the ridicule I decided I wanted to work on my penmanship. This took me to the internet on a quest for resources to help me improve my writing. One common suggestion I found was to take up the use of a fountain pen. So, I went to the nearest stationary shop and bought my very first pen, a pretty looking Pierre Cardin for about $6 (I don’t recommend them for the record). Instantly I fell in love and decided I would like to have a nicer instrument to write with. This took me back to the internet to learn what connoisseurs prefer to write with. In my search I discovered FountainPenNetwork.com. I highly recommend a visit! In the course of looking at pens made all over the world I received a message from a fellow member asking me if I had run across any of the Indian models. I didn’t know such a thing existed but the question made me curious. So began my hunt for Indian-made fountain pens. In the course of the journey I have learned much about India’s long history of affordable and useable fountain pen manufacture and of Gandhi’s story, which is shared on the homepage. Not only did I begin buying these pens for myself, but I also took a bunch home to the USA and began marketing them to US collectors. Now, I am back in India and would like to make these hard to find pens more available to the world market. I hope you enjoy the site and the pens as much as I do!
